This book was a fascinating read. Some of it is outdated, like the focus on learning classical languages which are no longer part of the general curriculum in most places. However the ideas about teaching and learning in general are really timeless. I think modern technology has made these ideas more feasible, though in a somewhat different way. Why not let students guide their own learning? Now that we can access so much knowledge, by words, pictures and videos, on computers and tablets, why not let students pick what they want to focus on most of the time? Trying to force everyone to learn the same thing at the same time clearly isn't working for a lot of people and makes school something to be avoided. But children are naturally curious so if they had some choice in it maybe they would actually enjoy it. I think this is applicable from grade school to even university or graduate school. Addressing the home life and physical health is also something that this book suggests and which is often neglected. Students can't learn if they are not physically or mentally healthy. Another important point he brings up is that teachers are not paid enough. Sadly this is still a problem. Good teachers deserve a lot more respect and reward for what they do.

Great Stuff!
This book The Philosophy of Teaching The Teacher, The Pupil, The School was free from and Expected to expand my teaching knowledge. The material within the book is adequate knowledge for me when dealing with school (regardless of grade) children/adolescents. A great drawback is that the reading is very slow and boring, but I am using this book for reference material within my class as an educator because basic knowledge is still knowledge.
